Originally settled for over a thousand years by the Soquel Indians; Capitola is the oldest Beach resort on the west coast and was named Camp Capitola. The origin of the name Capitola is not known for sure but it is believed that it was the name of the heroine in a story favored by the daughter of Samual A. Hall who leased the land where CampCapitola was located.
